Guanyu Zhou is in his second season in Formula 1. At Melbourne, the Chinese driver scored his first points in 2023, and Alfa Romeo feature race engineer Heavy Pujolar has praised the driver’s progress since his debut in the championship.
“I think Zhou is getting better,” says Pujolar. – I would say both our riders are on the same level now. It’s good for the team. Qualifying in Australia wasn’t perfect, but in the first two qualifiers both of our riders were close to the final, which is great.
Zhou has become more confident, he learns from Valtteri and this allows the team to go with the two riders. The team’s progress in turn gives Zhou even more confidence in his abilities.
Speaking about Alfa Romeo’s prospects this season, Pujolar said: “It is clear that three or four teams are ahead of everyone else, and there is a very close battle for positions below eighth. Everyone else has chances for the remaining few positions at the finish, for which points are awarded, and everyone fights for it. We are also not far from these positions, and any little thing can affect the balance of power in the middle group.
