We have already talked about Günther Steiner’s book, which will be published in a few days and promises to be a bestseller. In it, the head of the Haas F1 team is very candid about the events that have recently taken place in the World Championship, and given that he became one of the popular characters in the paddock thanks to the documentary series Drive to Survive, the reader’s attention is guaranteed .
Individual intriguing fragments of it are already appearing in the European press, invariably emphasizing that the book is titled Surviving to Drive, and this is a pun changing the title of the Netflix series.
If in the second case it can be interpreted as “Hunting to survive”, then in Steiner’s memoirs these words are rearranged and something like “We survive to race” turns out.
In particular, he shared his memories of the controversial end of the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, believing it is time to put those past events behind and move on. Incidentally, Steiner wrote the chapter of the book dedicated to them just days after the end of the championship at his parents’ home in northern Italy, when this subject was on the front pages of the motorsport press all over the world.
“If anyone interested in my opinion of what happened six days ago in Abu Dhabi between Lewis and Max paid me one dollar, I could have poached Adrian Newey! Steiner writes in his usual way. “While that doesn’t mean I would, he’s too big a figure for me.
After the race I stayed with my mom for a few days and everyone I met in town wanted to know what I thought of all this. I replied: “Why are you asking me this? I was too busy, my attention was completely focused on one Russian rider who didn’t make it to the finish, and one German who took 14th place.”
So what am I actually thinking? The situation was, of course, very confusing. I remember sitting on the pit wall, listening to the race director’s orders and thinking, “What the hell is going on with them?”
It didn’t really interest me at the time, but on the other hand, I didn’t know all the facts then. However, the story is very interesting. Poor Toto Wolff almost had a heart attack!
If you think about it, both teams ended up winning the championship, which is good. The Red Bull driver won the drivers’ standings, Mercedes won the constructors’ championship. Personally, I’m ready to receive one of these trophies. Mercedes made no protest, so they drove on. Let’s move on.”
Some time ago online retailers started taking orders for Steiner’s book, and there’s no doubt that the readership is willing to pay £9.99 for the electronic version and £14.99 for the “proper” hard copy hard copy edition. cover.
