Lawsuit over Lauda’s estate could drag on

At the Vienna Regional Court, a trial has been initiated by the widow of Niki Lauda, and we wrote about this trial. The essence of Birgit Lauda’s claims is that she needs about 30 million euros from the fund once set up by the famous Austrian racer, insisting that this fund, which manages the estate of the three-time world champion, does not sufficiently take into account the interests of her two children.

Witnesses began testifying in court this week. In particular, the lawyer Haig Asenbauer, a friend of Lauda, who had advised him for many years on legal matters and one of the trustees of his fund, launched an attack on Birgit 44, claiming that she had not declared all the properties she had inherited.

First of all, we are talking about a collection of artworks of about 50 paintings. If they were acquired by Niki Lauda, then this collection should be administered by the foundation, therefore the amount of the widow’s financial claims should be reduced by at least the amount by which these canvases are valued. A separate issue concerns jewelry belonging to Birgit.

The foundation pays her and her children 20,000 euros per month and also covers the costs of maintaining a house in Vienna, a villa on the island of Ibiza, three cars, etc.

Another manager of the fund, Attila Dogudan, who also spoke in court, generally stated that Lauda’s main residence was the same villa in Ibiza, so the case should not be heard by the Viennese Land Court, but by the Spanish courts .

On Friday, the rider’s sons from his first marriage, Matthias and Lucas, were due to speak, but they did not appear in court, so the next meeting was postponed to a later date.

According to the Austrian press, one of the reasons that probably prompted the widow to a tedious and unpleasant court case, the outcome of which is not clear to her, is that she intends to remarry. Her new chosen one is 55-year-old Marx Sieberer, a lawyer from Zurich, but the fact is that when and if the couple legalizes the relationship, Birgit will no longer receive money from the Lauda Foundation. That is why Birgit is now trying to seize the money, but so far she only pays the legal costs, which have already amounted to 300 thousand euros.
