McLaren does not reach budget limit

Team budgets have been capped at $140 million this year (not including driver salaries, advertising, and some other costs), but many are already admitting that meeting this amount will be impossible.

As early as Monaco, Ferrari team chief Mattia Binotto said the Scuderia would not reach the limit under any circumstances. In Baku, McLaren team leader Andreas Seidl acknowledged the same.

Andreas Seidl: “We intended to reach the limit, but now we understand that we will not be able to do this. There are certain payments we have to make, but the costs have risen unexpectedly and very seriously, especially transportation and utilities. We are in the same position as some other teams who will also not be able to meet the limit this year. But I hope that the negotiations with other teams, the FIA and Formula 1 will allow us to find a solution that matches the interests of the development of the sport.

At the same time, I am very happy that there is a budget constraint in Formula 1. This measure was necessary for our sport, including our team, to ensure financial stability and sports competition. But it is now clear that due to unforeseen costs, the current cost cap will seriously affect the development of the machine.

In this situation, each team represents its interests. Since the restriction applies to everyone, I am not worried about this, but I do hope that a compromise can be found with the help of the FIA.

I don’t want to go into the details of the negotiations we are currently having with other teams and the FIA, but it is important in the interest of the sport to find a common solution for everyone without compromising cost control principles.”
