The Spanish press writes that Madrid continues to dream of hosting a Formula 1 race in the future, although negotiations on this project are currently on hold.
In an interview with business publication Vozpopuli, Izabel Diaz Ayuso, president of the Autonomous Community of Madrid, urged to remain realistic, to be patient, but to remain optimistic.
“I am convinced that this project can be realized, but for now we had to stop the negotiations, so we will have to wait and see. Of course, I personally have an extremely optimistic attitude.
We are talking about an urban track near the IFEMA exhibition complex, which can be built up and broken down. We are going to use elements of the existing excellent infrastructure of the complex and all this is combined with the so-called “musical mile” with its restaurants and shops. There are no Formula 1 circuits anywhere in the world yet.”
The authorities of the Spanish capital understand that the Spanish Grand Prix is currently hosting the circuit in Barcelona, which has a contract to host a Formula 1 race, valid until 2026. Negotiations on the extensions are already underway, but Izabel Diaz Ayuso is optimistic, because the London Grand Prix, for example, continues to be discussed, despite the fact that no one is going to give up the classic race at Silverstone.
However, she stressed that the Madrid project is still in its early stages.
