Felipe Drugovic, Aston Martin’s reserve driver, took part in rookie testing today and drove a Maserati Formula E car for the first time, which did not stop him from setting the best time.
The weather conditions on Monday were changeable, the morning session was held in good sunny weather, but before the second session there was a brief rain shower, the wind picked up, but the track dried up towards the end of the tests.
Initially, Robert Schwartzman occupied the first line for some time, then Zane Maloney, a member of the Red Bull youth program, moved him from there, but he showed his result (1 min. 05.619 seconds) using the maximum power mode of 350 kW.
This result was then covered by Viktor Marten, Alpine F1 protégé, but Drugovic completed the lap in 1 minute. 05.509, and no one could beat his time.
“I liked everything and I think the result exceeded expectations, especially as I had driven Formula 2 and Formula 1 cars before,” The Race quoted the Brazilian as saying. – Maybe at first there were strange sensations, because I did not know how interesting it was to drive these cars.
But it actually turned out to be a lot of fun, I enjoyed it. Everyone knows that Formula E is very competitive, the teams in the electric series are very professional, but it exceeded my expectations. Everything made a great impression on me!”
Incidentally, the time shown by Felipe is only a few tenths worse than the result with which Max Gunter, who competes in Formula E in this particular Maserati car, completed his training at the Berlin circuit.
South African driver Sheldon van der Linde, the reigning DTM champion, led the morning session, but in the afternoon he went off the track at Turn 6 and damaged the front of the Jaguar electric car driven by Sam Bird. The team was able to repair the car, but Sheldon did not return to the track until five minutes before the end of testing.
Shvartsman, who worked with the DS Penske team, finally showed the 7th result, Daniil Kvyat, who worked with NIO 333, was tenth.
