Charles Leclerc’s contract with Ferrari runs until the end of 2024 and there are already rumors in the paddock that the Monegask, frustrated with the team’s inability to build a championship car, is considering leaving. Red Bull motorsport adviser Helmut Marko believes that if Leclerc really wanted to leave Ferrari, he would have done so long ago.
Helmut Marko: “The contracts contain clauses that record the results. Roughly speaking, the agreement states that the rider must have achieved a certain number of points by a certain date, usually by the summer break, after which the contract is automatically extended.
If this does not happen, both parties have the option to terminate the contract. It is for this reason that Sebastian Vettel was able to move to Ferrari so easily in 2015.”
Marko also responded to the rumors about the possible departure of Carlos Sainz to Audi, which the racer himself already denied: “Now anyone can publish something on the network, and such messages cannot be verified. But why would Ferrari stop working with Carlos? It just doesn’t make any sense. He’s doing well and Ferrari has other issues to deal with instead of thinking about Sainz.”
