The Alfa Romeo riders were not so fast on Friday, but are hoping for progress on Saturday…
Valtteri Bottas (15th): “At the beginning the grip and balance left a lot to be desired, but as the day went on we were able to improve. The track seemed a bit bumpier than last year but nothing to worry about – luckily we have no problems with the build up of the car. We actively worked with the settings and at the end of the day the car behaved a lot better.
I’m sure we can get more speed from her tomorrow, and today I didn’t avoid mistakes myself, not even in the last attempt in the second session, which I started very well, but blocked the rubber and lost a lap.
As usual, the results in the middle group of teams are very tight, but I’m sure at night we will find an opportunity to take a step forward. I’m optimistic about qualifying and continuing into the weekend.”
Guanyu Zhou (16th): “Positive day. I loved the track, I got used to it quickly – especially compared to Jeddah and Monaco. Because I had the ability to attack, I enjoyed driving and made no mistakes. I am satisfied. I am sure we will improve tomorrow and we can achieve more in qualifying.
The battle with the middle group is very tight, the difference between 10th and 16th place is minimal, so if we find the opportunity to regain a few tenths we will improve our positions significantly.
In Baku there are several factors for good lap times, for example passing behind another car in a slipstream. We know we can join the fight and we will do our best.”
