Russian Race Fund Nikita Mazepin “We perform as one” wrote an open letter to the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach .
On Tuesday, Moscow hosts a meeting of wards of the Nikita Mazepin Foundation “We act as one”, devoted to summarizing the results of the first year of work.
– Dear Mr. President! The mission of the Olympic Games and the Olympic Movement is to unite the whole world, to promote the acceptance of different points of view. It is a fundamental principle that sport is neutral and should not be subject to political, religious or other interference.
The basic principles set out in the Olympic Charter provide for respect for the rights and freedoms of participants in the absence of any form of discrimination – racial, linguistic, religious, political, based on the color of the skin, sex, orientation sexuality, dissent, national or social origin, possession of property, birth or other status. This is why no athlete should be excluded from competition because of their membership of a particular country or national team.
The Olympic movement and the Olympic Games have an unconditional value for all of humanity thanks precisely to respect for all the traditions and foundations laid down in antiquity and revived by Pierre de Coubertin, who said: “O sport, you are the world! ”.
More and more representatives of the international sports community are speaking out in favor of the quality and level of international competitions which, in the absence of the strongest athletes, become less spectacular and competitive for both fans and athletes. themselves. Decisions by international federations to screen individual athletes for admission to competition are contrary to the idea of what sport should be. The destruction of Olympic traditions and foundations does not contribute to the development of international sport, there is no longer any doubt.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has lifted the sanctions of all Russian athletes.
Created to support athletes excluded from international competition for non-sporting reasons, the We Perform As One Charitable Foundation is firmly committed to the position that all athletes, without exception, should enjoy the same conditions of admission to the Olympic Games. In particular, the possibility of participating in collective sports, of not submitting to any individual control going beyond the Olympic Charter and the requirements of the anti-doping commission.
The We Perform As One Foundation calls on all who share these beliefs to join in collecting open letters to the International Olympic Committee – the athletes and our international partner friends, thus confirming the unity of the spirit of sport in the world, indicates the letter.
The foundation was created to help athletes who, like Mazepin, have been suspended from international competition for non-sporting reasons. Currently, the foundation assists 55 Olympians and Paralympians by providing professional psychological and legal support, assistance with career counseling and obtaining higher or specialized education.
