Nico Hulkenberg scored his first points of the season in Melbourne – and is optimistic about the continuation…
Q: What did you do during the three week break?
Nico Hulkenberg: Time passed quietly – we recap Melbourne and then got ready for Baku and Miami. There is a very busy track ahead, I spent the day on the simulator, working with models of these two tracks. I trained to keep fit, my family and I moved to Mallorca for two weeks to recover and prepare.
Q: How did you feel after getting your first points in Australia with Haas F1…
Nico Hulkenberg: The first points in a new team are always positive. In this cell I put a “check mark”, the job is done. In the first stages we added a lot, got more out of the car, optimized the settings. We will continue to experiment with it and look forward to further progress. Of course it was nice to have a good race and score points.
Q: Leading up to the fourth stage – the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, where you’ll enter the stage for the first time with a sprint race. What do you think of this format?
Nico Hulkenberg: For me this is the first sprint and the fans should like it. Just an hour of training, then qualify immediately – just like in the youth series.
I go into this with an open heart and accept the challenge. We have less time to prepare, we have to get into the optimal settings quickly. Baku has a difficult high-speed circuit, the races there are spectacular. We are preparing for a difficult but interesting weekend.
