After the first practice in Baku, Red Bull Racing’s rivals were dissatisfied with DRS’ performance on Max Verstappen’s car. The controlled element vibrated noticeably, which could indicate insufficient stiffness of the aerodynamic element – and this is prohibited by regulations.
Red Bull replied that this was not an advantage, but was a malfunction – and between practices, the mechanics went over the DRS unit on Max’s car. At the same time, Sergio Perez’s car did not have such problems. In the evening, Red Bull adviser Helmut Marko commented on the situation…
Helmut Marko: “This rear wing is different from the car in Barcelona [где у Макса тоже были проблемы с DRS]† Perez and Verstappen use the same wings, but Max always has similar problems. But now the problem is solved, we solved everything.
This weekend, both riders received new power plants, which means it is always a matter of looking for the optimal settings. We do this, but already in the second practice there were no difficulties.”
