Esteban Okon has only scored points in one race this season, but he is hoping for a successful run in Azerbaijan…
Q: It has been three weeks since the Australian Grand Prix. Has the team been able to recover from the failure in the last race? Ready for another race weekend?
Esteban Ocon: A short break after the Australian Grand Prix allowed us to analyze the results of the last race. Things didn’t end in the best way in Melbourne, but that weekend brought a lot of positive moments. Now we are focused on getting back to wrestling in even better shape in Baku.
The team has prepared new items, moreover, at this stage we are waiting for a new format for the Saturday sprint – on Friday you have to do everything right away. I want to leave Baku to earn points for the team.
Q: What did you do during the three week break?
Esteban Ocon: Unusual to have so much free time at this stage of the season! Three non-race weekends in a row – this happens off-season and during the summer holidays. It was helpful after Melbourne to have a chance to recover and think, practice, work on the simulator.
A few days I disconnected from everything, spent them with relatives and friends, because such opportunities are rare. Difficult weeks ahead – first a double stage in Baku and Miami, then three races in a row. It won’t be easy, but now I feel rested and ready to fight.
Q: What do you think of the Baku circuit?
Esteban Ocon: Baku is a beautiful city, where we perform on a unique high-speed circuit with long straights, broken 90-degree turns. It’s not easy to find the optimal settings there, and the challenge becomes even more difficult when you only have one practice session for Friday’s qualifying and Saturday’s sprint.
If you guessed correctly with the settings in Baku, it will be very pleasant to fly there. The race usually turns out to be spectacular and unpredictable, as it has happened more than once in recent years. I look forward to getting behind the wheel again on the streets of Baku.
