Toto Wolff: The team will continue to bring new items

Mercedes CEO Toto Wolff spoke about the team’s preparations for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and expectations for the first sprint race weekend of the season.

Toto Wolff: “We haven’t had a race in several weeks, but the staff at both bases have been working hard. We have tried to make the most of this time by making the planned changes to the car and applying all the knowledge we have already acquired.

The round in Australia showed that we are making progress, but we must be careful not to overestimate any result. In Melbourne, however, we saw encouraging signs, which became good motivation for the whole team during a break in the calendar.

In the coming races we want to keep taking small steps forward. In the coming weeks, the team will continue to improve the car and bring new items to the track all the time. We’re curious to see how much progress the update will make, but we know there’s no silver bullet.

After almost a month without Formula 1, everyone is eager to get back on track. Fortunately, there are still many races to come – in Azerbaijan we start an exciting series of five stages in six weeks.

Races in Baku are always dramatic and spectacular. The track is difficult, the walls are close, so the riders have no room for error. In addition, the first sprint of the season will take place this weekend in an adapted format. An interesting challenge awaits the team as we have to prepare for two qualifying sessions and races in one Friday practice. I hope that with the new format the fans will be more interesting and see more fights.”
