Lance Stroll stands in solidarity with the riders who welcome the change in the weekend’s format. The Canadian Aston Martin driver thinks the Azerbaijani stage, with its two qualifiers and Saturday’s sprint, should appeal to fans.
Lance Stroll: “I think everyone finds the new format of the weekend interesting as it keeps everyone on their toes. Tomorrow it will be necessary to immediately enter the rhythm and find such settings for the car that suit you as soon as possible. I think it will be fun for us and for the fans, which is great.
I still remember my first podium in Baku, although after that I ran in second place for almost 27 laps and then lost it in the last meters of the distance (Lance clearly exaggerates – in fact, in the 2017 Azerbaijan Grand Prix he was second in 17 laps, but just before the finish he was overtaken by Valtteri Bottas). But I have fond memories of this track, it’s really difficult and the races here are always very interesting.
This year our team had a great start to the season and in Melbourne we again achieved good results with a 3rd and 4th place. And we were competitive on the tracks, completely different in characteristics.
Baky City Circuit, in turn, is different from both Albert Park and Jeddah, so let’s see what lies ahead. But I don’t think there is any reason to prevent us from being competitive this weekend as well.”
