In Melbourne, Guanyu Zhou earned his first points of the season. On the eve of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the Alfa Romeo driver said he felt he had noticeably improved compared to last debut season.
Guanyu Zhou: “I’m happy to be behind the wheel again, especially after the successful last lap. This weekend the drivers and the team are waiting for a new format, but I have no doubt it will be more exciting than the previous one.
We won’t have much time to prepare and adapt – we need to show speed right away. It is important to start the weekend well and to find the right balance right away, because then we do not have the opportunity to change the settings during the weekend.
In terms of work approach and speed I have made a huge step forward compared to last season and closed the gap on my teammate. Of course I know a lot more now, because every weekend I studied with Valtteri. But most importantly, we are already equal in speed. It’s good for the team that we push each other forward.
At the beginning of last season I had big problems, but I made a big step forward in this. I’m happy to be able to attack and close the gap in qualifying and races.
