Ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the FIA changed the format of the race weekend to a sprint, replacing Saturday practice with qualifying for the sprint. Alfa Romeo driver Valtteri Bottas is among those who liked the change.
Valtteri Bottas: “I like the new format and the fact that after one training session we will start fighting on track. Free rides on Friday will make a big difference, and Saturday will be harder. But I think it’s good.
This season we raced on three circuits of different types and on some of them we had problems. There are still a lot of races ahead, so everyone in the team was happy with the mini break. We have time to analyze everything and understand what can be done to improve. At the moment we are a bit short on speed, but in Baku we will have to perform on a different type of track, where the car has to be really efficient.
Let’s see what positions we will be in, but we have worked hard on the preparation for this stage, also on the simulator. Compared to the last race, we really discovered a number of things.”
