Sergio Perez hopes Red Bull Racing could address the causes of the problems that held him back in Melbourne. In addition, the Mexican thinks that Baku City Circuit is not the most suitable circuit for Saturday’s sprint.
Sergio Perez: “After the first three races of the season, which were held in a very tense atmosphere, it was great to spend some time with family and friends, but now I am looking forward to the upcoming Grand Prix and I am very happy to return to Baku.
The weekend in Melbourne was not the best, and subconsciously you keep remembering the problems that prevented me from Saturday, but you have to move on. Then we faced specific issues, which affected third practice and qualifying – overall the day was just terrible.
I think we have addressed the causes of most of the problems, and it was not just one problem, but a whole complex of factors, but let’s hope that such problems do not arise again. The more I want to avoid them in Baku.
Admittedly, the long break between races fell on an unsuccessful period for our team, because if Red Bull Racing achieved excellent results at the start of the season, then of course we wanted to continue to perform at this level in order to prevent the rest from closing the gap. to close.
It is clear that all teams are working as hard as possible, including ours, and it does not stop there. We have brought several new products to Baku and we hope to maintain our leadership.
When we talk about the new format of the weekend, we have to wait and see how events will develop. But it seems to me that the tracks for sprint races should be chosen more carefully, because the races in Baku were mostly very interesting and in a standard format. In general, there is still work to be done in this area, but let’s wait and see.
Although I don’t have a prevailing opinion, it is clear that we need to run Friday practice as efficiently as possible. With the weekend’s new format, the value of each session increases, although of course Sunday’s Grand Prix remains the most important for everyone.
