Charles Leclerc: Pole was a pleasant surprise!

Charles Leclerc won qualifying in Baku for the third year in a row, although he admitted that pole this time was a surprise for Ferrari. His teammate Carlos Sainz showed the fourth result.

Charles Leclerc: “Of course I’m surprised! Before the start of the weekend we thought it would be nice to be ahead of Aston Martin and Mercedes in qualifying, but in the end we are on pole! It was a pleasant surprise, but let’s not forget that our car is still inferior to Red Bull in the races, so it won’t be easy to keep the lead, but that’s the goal.

I am very happy with how I did the lap, but this weekend all drivers have very difficult tasks, because there was very little time to train here. After a single session I almost immediately had to leave for qualifying, but from the first laps the car made a good impression, so I am very satisfied.

But tomorrow we are waiting for new difficulties, because we have not worked with Medium tires yet, so we will try them for the first time already in Saturday qualifying. In addition, it will be necessary to show a good time right away, because we only have one set at our disposal, so there is no room for error.

However, as the car can have a good pace, I hope we can put things in order in the first two qualifying sessions and attack at full strength in the final.
