Bottas: The car is more competitive than in Melbourne

Alfa Romeo’s best result in qualifying for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix was Valtteri Bottas’ 14th place. His teammate Guanyu Zhou did not miss the first part and showed the sixteenth result. The team is not giving up and expects to participate in qualifying and the sprint on Saturday.

Valttery Bottas (14th): “We feel more competitive than in Melbourne and Jeddah, which can be considered a step in the right direction, although it was not enough to reach the final. We’ve got the right setup, I’m comfortable in the car so there’s potential to add to the rest of the weekend.

Friday turned out to be quite exciting – we qualified after only one training session, but it turned out to be quite interesting. I think we will have many more chances in the remaining days of the weekend. Let’s see what results we can achieve tomorrow.”

Guanyu Zhou (16th): “I was very close to reaching the second part, which would be a good result. It’s a bit of a shame that I only missed a few hundredths, but sometimes it happens in racing.

The car was fast enough in practice, but I can’t say that about qualifying. All in all a difficult session because I couldn’t find anything to hold on to. I feel that tomorrow we will have the opportunity to get more speed out of the car. The team will continue to work hard to get back into the fray in qualifying for the sprint and in the sprint itself.”
