In yesterday’s qualifying, Lewis Hamilton was ahead of George Russell, but on Saturday, as battles began for starting positions in the sprint on track in Baku, he showed only sixth result, despite his Mercedes team-mate moving up to 4th line of the protocol.
Lewis Hamilton: “The first and second part of qualifying went well, but on the last lap I was already struggling to control the behavior of the rear of the car and I couldn’t use the slipstream – the Red Bull- riders managed to break too far away. I gave everything, but I was a bit unlucky. And in such cases you should always hope for luck.
It was fun though – qualifiers are always fun in general, and today the feeling was the same as if it were another qualifier. The sprint will only last 17 laps and it seems to me that you can’t gain much back in this time. But I hope it will still be like a race.”
