Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz finished second and fifth in the sprint in Baku. Ferrari expects the information gathered today to contribute to Sunday’s race.
Charles Leclerc (2nd): “I wanted to fight for the win, but we knew it would be difficult given the speed advantage Red Bull has. We don’t have enough speed from a distance and the team focused on correcting this shortcoming.
The positive results include a high pace of qualifying. We took a good step in the right direction after the race in Australia. Let’s see what result is possible tomorrow.”
Carlo Sainz (5e): “Not the easiest weekend for me, but we keep working. I managed to earn some points and based on this result I will try to improve.
Today we were able to do more laps and I hope tomorrow we can overcome our limitations and maximize the result. The weekend isn’t over yet – in Baku you have to be ready to take advantage of every opportunity, so it’s important to maintain maximum concentration until the finish line.
Frederick Vasseur, team leader: “If you start from pole and don’t win, you can’t be satisfied with results like that. However, Charles and Carlos ran the race as expected and achieved a good result.
We saw progress in Melbourne and that was confirmed this weekend. In qualifying we are faster than Red Bull and in the sprint we were able to compete with Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen, although we still have to work on the race pace.
Today we used Medium tires with a lot of fuel in the tanks. This has allowed the team to gather useful information for analysis that will help to get even more speed out of the car tomorrow when Charles starts from pole again.
