Yuki Tsunoda: The Baku circuit suits our car

Nick de Vries finished 14th in the sprint on Saturday and his teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only one to drop out after hitting the hurdle…

Nick deVries (14th): “During qualifying on Saturday the tires had no grip, I think it worried everyone – this weekend we didn’t really manage to work with rubber. The first circle was a warm-up and the second was interrupted.

In the sprint the car was in good shape, it allowed us to regain positions, compared to the rivals in the middle group we had less problems with the tyres, which makes us optimistic for tomorrow’s race. During 17 laps I gained back four positions, we have to continue in the same spirit tomorrow.”

Yuki Tsunoda (retirement): “In the morning I was sure I could get into the second part of qualifying, but I didn’t get the chance to do the last fast lap.

Obviously I’m disappointed with the result of the sprint, but it was interesting to compare the speed of the cars on the same tyres.

On the first lap of the sprint, Nick and I collided when I tried to attack him. There was contact, the front fender was damaged, I hit the barrier with the rear of the car, ending my race. It is a pity that this happened – there is a feeling that we could count on a good result.

Now I’m getting ready for the race, hopefully I’ll start in a good position and try to get as many points as possible. This circuit suits our car, so there is an opportunity.”
