Verstappen does not like sprint weekends

At a press conference on Saturday, Max Verstappen said he didn’t like sprint weekends…

Max Verstappen: “These weekends are too busy. It’s not racing, it’s like gambling. But they are played better in Vegas.

I like real racing, and the sprint is more of a show. Entertainment is also needed, but if the speed difference between the cars was not so great, we would get more entertainment than with a sprint. It’s like a football game where a team is leading 3-0 and then all of a sudden you say, “Let’s put the score back to 0-0 and start over.” This seems completely unnecessary to me.

We need to go back to basics, to make sure every team can fight for victory – this is what we should aim for, and not introduce all these artificial events. Frankly, I was bored during sprint qualifying. I believe the qualification should be one where you give it your all. I enjoyed participating in the main qualification on Friday, and on Saturday morning I suddenly had to conduct another one. I thought, “God, another qualifier?” I just don’t enjoy it.”
