Charles Leclerc finished third in Baku, taking the podium for the first time this season. Before the awards ceremony, the Monegask repeated the statement that the Ferrari car still lacks speed to beat Red Bull Racing.
Charles Leclerc: “In racing, Red Bull are in their own class. A very good qualifying lap put us in the lead, but with 51 laps it’s impossible to keep them behind because their race pace is so much faster than ours.
They could find something that makes their car faster, and we couldn’t. Everyone at Ferrari works hard to make the car go faster during the race.
It feels like we’ve narrowed the gap, but we don’t know how much. Aston Martin is also very fast, so we have to keep working. Closer to the finish, Fernando attacked, but I knew his intentions from the start, because he always saves tires at the beginning of the segment to attack at the end. The gap was minimal, but today it was still not enough for Fernando.
