In Baku, the Ferrari team achieved its first podium of the season thanks to Charles Leclerc’s third place. Scuderia head Frederic Vasser summed up the weekend for the team.
Question: How does the team rate the results of the weekend?
Frederick Vasseur: Good results – pole in qualifying and a podium in the race. The result will increase the motivation of the team, which is very important. This weekend we saw positive signs – the car is fast on a fast lap, but now we have to improve on a long run, which will not be easy.
Today we were fast enough, but still it wasn’t enough [для более высокого результата]. We will draw conclusions from the last race.
Q: Was third place the maximum for today?
Frederick Vasseur: We wanted to win, but this option was not available! (laughs) It was difficult for us to fight for victory, at least in Baku. We expected something like this joining of forces, so we can say that we did almost everything we could today.
Q: What were Carlos Sainz’s problems?
Frederick Vasseur: In the race he lost position to Fernando Alonso, although he had good pace towards the finish. He might as well have finished fourth.
