Yuki Tsunoda finished tenth in Baku, earning points for AlphaTauri for the second time in a row. His teammate Nick de Vries crashed the car on the eleventh lap.
Yuki Tsunoda (10th): “Today was a difficult race, but the team, especially the mechanics, did a great job restoring the car after yesterday. Engineers found suitable settings, although I lost time on the second sector. This weekend we didn’t have the opportunity to work on a long set of circles, but I showed a high race pace and was constantly adding.
I am satisfied with my performance, because I showed a stable speed. I was sandwiched between two McLaren drivers and I knew that any mistake could cost me a bonus point. It took a lot of concentration, but I was able to finish in the top ten.
We can improve in many ways, including to consistently fight for points, but I am sure that my team will be stronger in the races in the future.
Nick deVries (retires): “Today’s accident was the result of my mistake. A very stupid and unnecessary incident, for which I take full responsibility. I’m disappointed in myself, but what’s done is done.
There were also positive moments this weekend, which I will try to study. I’m glad we start again next week so I can forget about this weekend as soon as possible.”
