Despite the ongoing problems with DRS, the Aston Martin drivers ended the weekend successfully with two cars earning points…
Mike Crack, team leader: “Another successful weekend, we take 22 points from Baku. A great result of a difficult stage on a difficult street course.
The riders did a great job, gaining back several positions, riding a long stretch on Hard, keeping a fast pace and checking the condition of the tyres. Ahead of the first trip this year to the United States, where we play next week in Miami.
Fernando Alonso (4th): “Despite a tough weekend with DRS problems on Friday and Saturday, I finished just one second off the podium today. I am happy with fourth place and our overall performance. Fortunately DRS worked fine today and I was able to keep a close eye on the condition of the tyres. Sometimes a good wind hindered, but in Baku you always fly on the edge.
We’ll be back on the track in a few days. Let’s see what a weekend in Miami brings us!”
Lance walk (7th): “I was happy with my start and then the restart behind the safety car, but during the race I didn’t feel very comfortable in the car and made a small mistake.
In Baku even a small mistake can end your race, I was lucky that contact with the wall did not damage the car.
When Lewis overtook me I just had to hold position and keep Russell on the remaining circles. He was busy but we had good tire control and I was able to keep him behind me.
We have a lot of work ahead of us in Miami, but we had a good first sprint weekend on Saturday this year, earned a lot of points and held onto second place in the Constructors’ Championship.
