The end of qualifying in Baku did not go according to plan for Red Bull Racing. Sergio Perez got stuck in the pits, preventing Max Verstappen from using the slipstream behind his car. Team leader Christian Horner summed up the day…
Christian Horner: “Even before qualifying I understood that the battle would be intense and Ferrari would have a small advantage. But in the races so far, our car has been faster. You can overtake on this track, I hope we can make life difficult for them tomorrow.
There is a long straight line in Baku, the effect of DRS is quite powerful. Of course you have to get close to the attack, but we will fight for the win. It’s important to get off to a good start.
Both our riders did a great job. Sergio used the confidence in the car he felt in Monaco today. Unfortunately, when refueling his car, there was a slight delay – we made a small error in the calculations. I think we could have gotten closer to Ferrari with the slipstream, but today we would have barely had enough speed to beat Charles.”
