Worst qualifying season for Haas in Baku

Qualifying in Baku turned out to be the worst of the season for the Haas team – Kevin Magnussen and Mick Schumacher didn’t make it out of the first session, posting 16th and 20th times. The riders declared this result with red flags due to Lance Stroll’s accident and traffic in the final minutes.

Kevin Magnussen (16th): “If the session is interrupted by red flags and there is enough time for another attempt, the drivers will line up ahead of time at the exit of the pit lane to get a fast lap. Our boxes are closest to the exit so I got stuck and had to let those already in line pass at the exit. As a result, I missed the fastest lap.

I’ll start 16th, but there’s a long race ahead of me.”

Mick Schumacher (20th): “We knew the fight in qualifying would be exciting, so it’s a shame we didn’t manage to get the last fast lap. I think we had potential. I was behind Lance and his mistake cost me the try, giving me the lap I did on the first try.

I have a feeling that the race has already started, but we are in Baku, which means we will have a lot of opportunities. It will be a tough but hopefully interesting race.”

Gunther SteinerTeam boss: “In the third practice we managed to find the speed that was missing on Friday, so we were optimistic about qualifying.

We were unable to make it out of the first session for several reasons – the yellow flags and the chaos that followed prevented us from leaving the track in time. We had to wait for the last car to leave the pitlane, but we didn’t make the lap.

Unfortunately this is happening, but I hope the bad luck will come to an end at some point because we know we are capable of more. Let’s see if luck is on our side tomorrow.
