In Baku, both McLaren drivers failed to qualify for the final for the first time since the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix…
Lando Norris (11th): “It’s a bit disappointing – I didn’t have enough to go to the final, but we did well. In Baku it was not immediately possible to find an approach to the car, but in the end we were very close to the top ten. I would attribute it to a few minor mistakes on my part and perhaps a less than ideal tire strategy in the closing laps.
However, I don’t think we expected more today. We have good starting positions, very close to the top ten, tomorrow we will compete for points. Our goal is to play in as many positions as possible during the race.”
Daniel Riccardo (12th): “After a difficult weekend in Monaco, changes for the better are clear. In Baku we were more competitive and I feel better about the car. Overall I’m happy with the weekend, although 11th and 12th places are not the result that will make us happy.
I have found settings that suit me better. I felt a lot of confidence in the car. I was hoping for some more progress in qualifying, but we’re going to analyze everything and look forward to the race.”
