Head of Mercedes Toto Wolff summed up the stage in Baku and spoke about the team’s preparation for the Miami Grand Prix.
Toto Wolff: “From the streets of Baku to the streets of Miami. We look forward to returning to the circuit soon after an interesting but challenging weekend in Baku. The new sprint format has brought some surprises, and now it is necessary to evaluate its merits and see if there is a need for changes.
Unfortunately we couldn’t find the right car settings during practice, which made the rest of the weekend difficult. Our race pace seemed competitive compared to Ferrari and Aston Martin, but it was difficult to overtake. The result roughly reflects the machine’s capabilities, but we know that every little thing can have a big impact from weekend to weekend.
The team is excited about the podium in Miami and the return to the track. We use a few days between races to analyze the information collected and prepare as best we can. The circuit in Miami is different from the one on which the previous races took place. Miami has an interesting combination of corners, fast stretches, long straights, as well as tight twisty stretches.
We are in for a busy weekend due to the large number of off-track events with team partners. There was an incredible buzz during last year’s stage and I have no doubt we will witness a spectacular weekend this season.”
