Gunther Steiner: It’s nice to be back in Miami

Before the weekend in Miami, Haas F1 boss Gunther Steiner recalled the race in Baku and spoke of the American team’s first home race…

Q: How do you rate the first weekend in Baku with the sprint on Saturday in the new format?
Gunter SteinerA: Generally good. This is the first phase of the new format, a lot has happened over the weekend, we still have to figure everything out. For example, if we qualify for a Grand Prix on Friday, are we breaking the link between Sunday’s race and what happens on Saturday? The FOM will talk to the fans to see if anything needs to be changed, but I’m very happy.

The schedule turned out to be intense for teams and riders, but in my opinion it should be. In the format of the sprint weekend, the Saturday practice was clearly superfluous, but it was replaced by the sprint qualifying – it is much more interesting.

Q: Ahead of the podium in Florida, Formula 1 awaits the Miami Grand Prix…
Gunter Steiner: The Miami race debuted last year, but it seems like this stage has been around for a long time. Everyone is looking forward to this event. A year ago everything was very well organized. This is one of those stages that it’s fun to return to.

Q: This is the first home race of the season for Haas F1. You have several US sponsors, including MoneyGram’s title partner. How do these stages differ?
Gunter Steiner: This weekend is going to be very busy for all of us. We have many US partners – MoneyGram, Haas Automation, Chipotle, TravisMathew. OAKBERRY and Palm Angels are connected to Miami, for them it’s an important market, almost a home race.

We have a lot of events planned and it’s great when we get the chance to introduce ourselves, the fans love it. There will be a lot of work, but the weekend flies by.
