At the Baku city circuit of the Haas F1 drivers, only Mick Schumacher reached the finish line and finished 14th, while Kevin Magnussen retired on lap 33 of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix due to power plant problems.
Kevin Magnussen (didn’t finish): “Looks like we were again able to compete for top ten places and earn a few points, so I’m disappointed.
I know the failure was caused by the motor losing power, but I can’t say for sure what exactly broke. Overall I was not lucky, but I have to prepare for the next race. You just have to keep the momentum going, keep a positive attitude and keep working hard – then sooner or later everything will work as it should.
Mick Schumacher (14th): “There was no safety car, no red flags, although I expected the safety car to appear on track three times, but it didn’t. We gave everything, but we just lacked the pace.
It’s been a bit better since Saturday, but on a track like this the most important thing is to work effectively on Friday, but we were only able to get through one practice session to find the right settings for qualifying.
The situation is already difficult, but all this has made it even more complicated. But we just have to prepare for the next races.”
Gunther Steiner, team leader: “This is not the result we expected, but at least it is good that we were fighting for good positions when the power plant in Kevin’s car failed. The reasons for what happened have yet to be determined.
However, I have always said that our car is good enough and allows you to fight for points, but we just have to finish the job. Kevin had a really hard time on the track and was fighting for the points, but Mick also tried his best.”
