Sainz: Relations with Alonso remain very good

After two unsuccessful stages of the season, Carlos Sainz hopes the Miami Grand Prix will end better for him, he told Marca newspaper. In addition, the Spanish driver assured Ferrari that despite the tough battles on the circuits, they have a good relationship with Fernando Alonso.

Carlos Sainz: “To be honest, the SF-23 is hard to drive and gave me some headaches in the first races of the season, so now we are trying to find better settings. But despite these difficulties, I see that everyone on the team has a more positive attitude, which hasn’t been the case for a long time.

It turned out that the car has some features that we don’t like, and we try to somehow compensate for them. In Maranello, a very aggressive plan of action has been put in place to achieve a turning point in a situation that is convenient for no one. Everyone is trying to change it and I like the way the team is working now.”

There were poignant moments during the race weekend in Baku between Sainz and Fernando Alonso, especially the sprint on Saturday, but Carlos assured that this did not affect their relationship in any way: “I have no problems with Fernando, despite the fact that some try to suggest.

Our relationship remains very good, despite the fights on the track. It is normal for the battle to become quite sharp in some situations, but when we lower the visors of the helmet, everyone has the same goal – to achieve high results. The beauty of motorsport is that as long as the drivers treat each other with respect, there will be no problems. Most importantly, I’m glad Fernando is doing well again!

Sainz said of expectations regarding the next stages of the championship: “We still need to work on increasing the race pace of the car, it remains our weak point. I hope I can find my rhythm in Miami because so far I’m not happy with my performance.

I think I have a good chance of taking a second Formula 1 victory soon, but for that we need some help from Red Bull Racing. I don’t think it was necessary last year, with our car we were able to win races. Nevertheless, I think this year, at some point in the season, we will be able to beat our rivals, because races are scheduled on different types of tracks. However, I don’t know when that could happen.
