Lando Norris, speaking of expectations for the upcoming weekend in Miami, admitted he was not counting on significant progress as the McLaren car is the same as the one in Baku.
Lando Norris: “Honestly, we are still in a catching up position and not yet at the level we should be. But we can already say that the car has essentially gotten better, and we continue to refine it with more confidence.
But I disagree with those who say that the year is not successful for us, that we just started the season badly – I think that would be the case if we claimed to win. But we took points in the first race of the season, we could have taken them in the second, but we were just unlucky because the car was damaged. After that, we performed well in Australia and in Baku.
So now we are somewhere in the middle between Aston Martin, Alpine, AlphaTauri and Haas – the battle between the teams in the middle of the pack is very tight, and some days we perform better, other days worse, but this is an interesting rivalry .
I think in Miami we can perform in much the same way as in the previous stage, I don’t expect any special progress, because we have the same car. We will probably try to better understand the innovations presented in Baku and try to make them work more efficiently. In general, the task is to earn a few points.
Now there are four teams that are still way ahead of us, despite all the innovations we’ve made. Sometimes we manage to get closer to them, but they are still playing in a different league.”
