The Andretti Cadillac team has submitted an official application to enter Formula 1 and now, along with other applicants, awaits the FIA verdict. Project manager Michael Andretti said if the application is approved he will enter his teams in the junior series of supporting races – Formula 2 and Formula 3.
Andretti needs his own teams in the youth series to evaluate potential candidates for the Formula 1 team.
Michael Andretti: “We plan to open a base in England to house the engineering department of the Formula 1 team. If the deal with Formula 1 goes through, then I want teams in Formula 3 and Formula 2 This is necessary to monitor how our riders progress through a youth series system, so we will know what equipment they have at their disposal and how they build relationships with the team.
It’s hard to judge riders who are climbing the career ladder. If someone has a big wallet, they’re treated better than a racer with a lot of talent, but we don’t do that in our teams. Only for the evaluation [молодых пилотов] I need these commands.
