Sergio Perez narrowed the gap on Max Verstappen to six points in the individual classification after winning the stage in Baku. In Miami, the Red Bull Racing driver said the team will allow him to fight for the title with a partner.
Sergio Perez: “I think Max and I are on the same level now. I have as many opportunities as Max, especially now – at the start of the season. The team makes us fight, and we fought in Jeddah and in Baku.
We can race. I don’t even know how many times we hit the wall in Baku – the situation could turn bad for all of us at any moment. I think Red Bull has already shown how the team should act in such situations.
From the very beginning of the season we see that the distance to rivals in qualifying is minimal. If you can’t get the most out of the tyres, Ferrari will qualify above us. Race-wise, we now have a very nice advantage, especially compared to our form on Saturday.
What happened to me during qualifying in Melbourne was the result of a combination of several factors. I shouldn’t have had those problems, but now I have to forget what happened in Melbourne and move on. I am fully focused on the Miami stage and the challenges ahead this weekend.
