Russell: Difficulties make Miami even more interesting

George Russell talked about the difficulties facing the racers in Miami, but at the same time he hopes that Mercedes will do better at this track than the previous weekend in Baku.

George Russell: “Adapting to Florida’s climate is not easy, last year’s race in Miami was one of the hardest, but in my opinion such difficulties only make this Grand Prix more interesting. Although if you drive a Formula 1 car for almost two hours in hot conditions, then of course you just sweat.

In qualifying in Baku I was, in my opinion, only four thousandths of a second short of reaching the final session. If we had made it to the final, then everything would have turned out very differently and we would not have been lower than the third row of the starting field.

Our car is certainly not fast enough, but on the eve of the weekend in Miami, we hope that things will go a bit smoother here and we can compete with Aston Martin and Ferrari.

With everyone still having fresh memories of the racing incident in Baku during the Saturday sprint between Russell and Max Verstappen, which followed a somewhat nervous dialogue between the drivers, George was asked if he would change tactics in the fight against the two-time world champion on the road.

“I will continue to race in the same way as always,” replied the Mercedes driver. – There was a lot of talk about this incident, but everything is perfectly clear to me: I broke forward, performed a successful maneuver and drove on, and Max was very unhappy about this.

But it’s racing and things like this sometimes happen and we’re all here to compete against each other and that’s what Formula 1 is all about.”
