Sebastian Vettel finished sixth in Baku, giving Aston Martin its best result of the season. By scoring eight points, the team was able to overtake Haas in the battle for eighth place in the Constructors’ Championship. Lance Stroll retired due to technical problems with the car.
Sebastian Vettel (6th): “Sixth place is a good result. I think we can be satisfied. We are working on getting the most out of the car and that is starting to pay off. Today we were faster than Alfa Romeo and rode at the same pace as Alpine and AlphaTauri, which slightly changed the balance of power.
The team had a great pit stop, which put me ahead of Lewis Hamilton. I was sure I caught up with Esteban Ocon but it seemed he was still struggling so I decided to go into the “pocket” and lost some time with this. Without this incident I would have been battling for fifth place. In any case, a good result.”
Lance Walk (get off): “Too bad I had to get out. The engineers saw on the telemetry that the car had problems due to vibrations and asked me to return to the pits. We don’t know exactly what the problem is yet, so next week we have to the trick, sorting everything out and removing the cause.
Sebastian has proven that the car has speed, so I hope we come back stronger next week at my home lap in Canada. I’m looking forward to the next race.”
Mike Krak, Team Principal: “Sebastian had a strong weekend and finished sixth, earning eight valuable points in the Constructors’ Championship. Lance had power plant problems in qualifying, and today with vibrations, forcing him to stop a few laps before the finish.
We have mixed feelings at the end of the weekend, but the car showed encouraging speed. The next leg in Canada, our home base, will take place in a few days. We will work hard to have a smooth and competitive weekend in Montreal.”
