Carlos Sainz set the second fastest time in the second practice session of the Miami Grand Prix, losing 0.385 seconds to session leader Max Verstappen. His Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc crashed his car at the end of practice, but before that he managed to show the third result.
Carlo Sainz (2nd): “Friday in Miami, as expected, turned out to be exciting – the temperature was high and we worked hard on the track. The asphalt is very different from last year, so it was important to get a good feel for the new conditions.
We have completed the planned program. The team has tested all three rubber compounds, so now we have a lot of information at our disposal for analysis.”
Charles Leclerc (3rd): “I don’t have much to say about the accident – I overdid it with the attack, so I flew away. I am also happy with the speed of the car on one lap, but on race pace we are far behind. The Red Bull drivers are back in their own class, so we need to find a way to play a lot in the race. However, we have more or less a qualifying pace.
The training turned out to be quite difficult, as the grip was only on the track. I attacked too hard, lost control of the rear of the car, tried to fix everything, but the tires had no grip to turn. The front of the car is broken, but there is no serious damage, which is the main thing. Saturday will be a new day and I’m sure it will be ok.
As for the race, we don’t have a magic solution to close the gap. I don’t think we can add much.”
