Yuki Tsunoda and Nick de Vries were at the end of the protocol after the results of the second free practice session of the Miami Grand Prix. AlphaTauri drivers stated that the car does not have the speed to beat rivals this weekend.
Yuki Tsunoda (18th): “Difficult day because of not enough pace – we need to find a way to improve. Compared to last year, the speed has increased and the asphalt has become better, but we lack the speed compared to our rivals.
We don’t have any major car upgrades at the moment, so on Saturday we have to try to find a different approach.”
Nick deVries (19th): “Miami has a unique podium and a great track, so it’s great to be racing in front of the American crowd.
The track is new to me, the grip on the asphalt is extremely low, so with each lap it turned out to be faster. Despite the high temperatures, warming up the tires proved to be a problem – the rubber takes a long time to do its job. We need to improve in this area – the team will analyze all the data and hopefully we will come back stronger on Saturday.
Judging by the pace on Friday, we are not where we want to be yet, but we will try to get all the ingredients together.”
