In the last lap of the race in Baku there was a dangerous incident involving Esteban Okon. The Alpine driver turned into the pit lane to make a pit stop, at which point some photographers and track personnel moved to the part of the pit lane where the cars were driving. Windows almost collided with people, but the tragedy was averted.
In Miami, Esteban said FIA officials had apologized to him for what had happened and assured him they had taken steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Esteban Ocon: “The representatives of the FIA and Formula 1 have apologized. They assured that such incidents would not happen again. Fortunately, no one was hurt, so everything is fine.
We fight to the finish line, so no one is allowed to be in the pit lane until the race is over. Such incidents should not happen and the FIA assured us that they have made the necessary changes to the protocols. Now there will be no one in the pit lane until the finish. I’m sure we won’t see anything like this again.”
