With Ferrari cars you can show good results in qualifying, but they are inferior to Red Bull in race distance, partly due to the fact that their aerodynamics are not efficient enough. However, Frederic Vasseur, head of the Italian team, said the Scuderia’s engineers and designers will not copy rivals’ aerodynamic solutions.
Frederic Wasser: “It is a mistake to assume that the speed of a car depends only on its aerodynamics – in fact, all factors in combination affect it. If you are going to copy someone else’s decisions, it means that you will always be late.
And now the teams’ budgets are also limited, so during the season it’s almost impossible to copy anything – that’s why we have to stick to our original plans and continue to modernize the platform we created.
There have been a few minor updates to our car this weekend and so far they are working pretty well. But for the next leg in Imola we are preparing the next set of updates, so now we can fully concentrate on our work.
For example, Red Bull has a very effective DRS system – we are certainly behind in this area, but this does not mean that we are going to copy anything. However, we must continue to work in that direction.”
