Valtteri Bottas reached the final of qualifying in Miami but didn’t have time to put in a fast lap before the session was halted by red flags due to the departure of Charles Leclerc. His Alfa Romeo team-mate Guanyu Zhou qualified 14th but wants to battle for points in the race.
Valttery Bottas (10th): “We don’t have any updates this weekend, but on this track we were able to get more out of the car thanks to the settings. It made me feel confident behind the wheel and I could concentrate on driving.
I’m happy to be in the top ten again, but I was unlucky – in the final I couldn’t do a lap because of the red flags.
There is no doubt that we will be fighting for points in the race – there is potential and pace for that. If I had driven a lap in the final, I would have started a few places higher. I have no doubt that I will fight for the points in the race.”
Guanyu Zhou (14th): “There is always a chance to reach the final of qualifying. I had a decent first session, but I couldn’t manage to use the slipstream in the second. I expected one of the opponents to be in front of me on the straight, but that didn’t happen and I lost a few tenths.
I don’t think I had the same speed as Valtteri, but I would be closer to him if I got a slipstream.
Today I felt more comfortable in the car than last week, although the car has not changed since Baku. Nevertheless, we have been able to make a good step forward because the track in Miami suits us better. Valtteri has reached the final, which is a testament to the speed of the car, so we will try to fight for the points in the race.”
