In Miami, Nick de Vries was ahead of partner Yuki Tsunoda in qualifying for the first time of the season. The Dutch racer AlphaTauri took part in the second part, in which he showed the fifteenth fastest time. Tsunoda ended the battle in the first part with the seventeenth result.
Nick deVries (15th): “Of course we always want more, but given the speed in the first and second practice, the team is satisfied with the result. In the end we fell behind, but thanks to the progress I made after Friday’s practice I was able to reach the second part of qualifying for the first time, which is a great achievement for us.
I don’t have enough experience with a long series of circles on this circuit and it’s difficult to overtake here, but we still have a long race ahead of us and maybe opportunities will arise that we can use.
The grip is low – outside the track the asphalt is very slippery, but Sunday is a new day and I’m ready to take part in the race!
Yuki Tsunoda (17th): “We didn’t want the result. From the very beginning of the weekend the car lacked speed and we had serious problems. The battle in the middle of the peloton is as fierce as in the previous stages, but there will be a new day on Sunday – let’s see how everything goes.
We changed the settings significantly, but they still don’t work. However, we continue with concentration. The balance itself is good, but the car lacks grip. You have to accept that I had a difficult and not the best qualifying, but we will analyze all the data and try to find a solution that will allow us to improve in the race.
