Fernando Alonso qualified second in Miami and will start from the front row for the second time this season. The Aston Martin driver said the car was perfectly balanced in qualifying to allow it to attack with full force.
Fernando Alonso (2nd): “Good qualification. The third workout turned out to be unsuccessful for us – we tried different settings, but they didn’t work. However, the team managed to bring the car to life in qualifying, so I’m very happy with second place. Let’s see what we can do in the race.
The balance of the car is perfect – I loved every lap. The car is a pleasure to drive, especially in rather difficult slow corners. In turns eleven and sixteen you have to have confidence in the car to get close to the wall. In qualifying the car allowed us to attack, which I am very happy about.
It was difficult all weekend due to the fact that the race track is very narrow, and beyond that the tarmac is very slippery. Let’s see what the weather will be like tomorrow and do our best.
I was always motivated, always worked hard, but I probably never had a team that believed in my ability to pick up the settings that would allow me to move forward. I’ve never had such a fast car as now. I think this is the reason for such results. I haven’t changed my approach, but Aston Martin has changed everything about me.”
Lance walk (18th): “Qualifying didn’t go the way I wanted. We tried to get through the first session on one set of soft tyres, but the decision turned out to be wrong. Other teams put down the second set and added seriously. But it happens – Fernando went into the second part of qualifying with one set of tyres, so it was possible.
I focus on the positives: the car is fine, we are very competitive in the race most of the time. Points are only awarded on Sunday!”
