Mercedes hoped for progress in Miami, but it turned out the other way around. The build-up re-emerged and the speed wasn’t even enough to fight with customer teams using the same engines.
George Russell: “Our car just doesn’t work in Miami. We can’t balance it, the buildup has reappeared. I think many thought the build up was a thing of the past, but no. The machine does not become more efficient. Everyone has worked hard to make progress, but on this track we are significantly less.
We have no explanation. Maybe this is because of the slippery asphalt, I don’t know. Clearly we need to do better. In the first practice everything looked good, but with each session the track got faster and our car got slower.
Where are we most lacking? Everywhere. There is no specific turning point. We experimented with the settings, but it didn’t change anything.
Apparently, the problem is in the aerodynamics of the car, which we want to change in the near future. We need to find the right direction for further work. I can’t promise we’ll play a lot of lap times, but we have to do this work.”
