Max Verstappen: Tactics helped to succeed

Max Verstappen started in ninth position in Miami, but eventually took his 38th Formula 1 victory – no one has won so many races before him in Red Bull Racing cars.

Max Verstappen (1st): “It was a good race! At the beginning I tried to avoid problems, and everything went well, I overtook the rival cars one after the other, after which I was able to do many laps on one set of hard tires – I think we succeeded because of this.

Towards the end of the race, Sergio and I had a short but interesting fight, but we both acted correctly and that’s the most important thing. Today we won a glorious victory!

Of course yesterday’s qualifying wasn’t the best, but today we kept calm, we had a good race and of course, if you win after starting from 9th, you’re really happy!

We started discussing tactics yesterday, when we didn’t know what the weather was going to be like, but we were sure if we started on hard tires it would help us succeed – luckily we did!

Sergio Perez (2e): “I gave it my all, but I think the first part of the distance turned out to be quite bad – we had problems with rubber granulation. This had a big impact on the whole race, especially since there wasn’t much speed difference on tires of different compound. But Max also just flew great today, and this is a deserved win.

We were hampered by the fact that the Medium compound tires were underperforming than expected, this didn’t allow us to go faster, but to be honest Max showed incredible pace on hard rubber. I think we need to analyze why we lacked speed.”
