In Miami, the AlphaTauri riders did not score any points – the Italian team’s best result was Yuki Tsunoda’s eleventh place. For the third time this season, the Japanese driver finished within a stone’s throw of the top ten.
His teammate Nick de Vries finished eighteenth after a collision with Lando Norris at the start.
Yuki Tsunoda (11th): “Good race – the team and I showed effort and bounced back. I feel like I got the most out of the car. It’s a pity that I didn’t manage to score points, because I gave everything, but I’m happy with my performance.
A psychologically difficult race, in which there was no opportunity to catch my breath, because someone was constantly driving in front of or behind me. I didn’t expect the race pace to be this high, but it’s encouraging for future races.
I was confident in the brakes, which allowed me to overtake a lot when braking late. We are preparing novelties for the Imola podium and we hope that we can earn points consistently.
Nick deVries (18th): “After the first lap I was behind because of my mistake. I locked the front wheels and Norris and I collided. This incident kind of ruined my first stint – after blocking, the right front tire vibrated, which affected the speed.
If you go behind without DRS you lose a lot of time on the straights – it was difficult for me to overtake rivals. I was only riding at the back, so the race was easier for me than if I had been fighting in the pack the whole distance.
Ups and downs alternated during the weekend. Saturday was better and in the race I lost a lot of positions on the first lap.
The team is preparing new items for the stage in Imola. I hope we can improve and fight again.
