Kevin Magnussen: I dreamed of more than tenth place

The Haas team earned a bonus point at the home race of the Miami Grand Prix thanks to tenth-place finisher Kevin Magnussen. His teammate Nico Hulkenberg finished fifteenth. In the Constructors’ Championship, Haas extended their lead over Alfa Romeo to seventh place to two points.

Kevin Magnussen (10th): “I was dreaming of more than one point, but it’s still better than nothing – we came to Miami to finish in the top ten.

I won’t say it was easy to earn points in the race as all the leaders made it to the finish. In such a situation, tenth place is more or less the maximum we can expect, given the speed of the car. I think we had a good pace, but the tire wear was a bit stronger than the rest.

The team had a great weekend, the car was fast and we took one point.”

Nico Hulkenberg (15th): “A difficult race that didn’t quite go the way we wanted. The start went well, but then the traffic problems started. I found myself surrounded by cars, which led to stability and traction issues. This made my job more difficult and led to increased tire wear.

Despite everything, we have learned useful lessons and gathered a lot of important information.”

Gunter Steiner, team boss: “We finished in the top 10 again today – the third time out of five this season. Nice achievement, but not easy. The result corresponds to our capabilities – if nothing happens, we claim the last points. This weekend we succeeded thanks to a very good performance in qualifying.

We started well, but in the middle of the race we rolled back a bit, but still earned points. Generally a positive result.

This year every point earned counts and we have to take the chance if there is a chance to finish in the top ten. Today it worked and we collected useful information in our first home race of the season.”
